The Shopify migration checklist we use before touching a single product page

ECOMMERCE · April 22, 2026 · 6 min read

Most failed Shopify migrations aren't a design problem — they're a sequencing problem. Redirects, tracking, and catalog structure get decided after the store already looks finished, and by then it's expensive to fix.

We start with a full URL and redirect map before any theme work, so existing search rankings carry over instead of resetting to zero on launch day.

Next is tracking parity: every pixel, conversion event, and server-side tag that fired on the old store needs to fire identically on the new one, verified before launch, not after the first week of ad spend.

Only after redirects and tracking are locked do we touch product page structure, checkout flow, and app stack — because those decisions are reversible, and the first two aren't.
